Landscaping contractor for new London residential development
Valley Provincial were the landscaping contractor for a new residential development in London. Gallions Quarter is a new residential development which forms part of the Royal Docks masterplan, a unique waterfront and a growing home for business and culture in Newham. The development featured two mirroring podiums, a public realm open-space to the front known as ‘Gallion’s Green’ and a shrub-lined access road between the two buildings. London property builder Telford Homes constructed the project and the landscaping scheme was developed alongside landscape architect Standerwick Land Design.
The project features extensive use of natural play equipment in the public area, as well as street furniture and self-binding gravel walkways. The walkways weaved through the space to maximise recreational use for residents. Material selection prioritised a seamless blend with the buildings themselves. This saw the use of multiple planters on the podium utilising the same bricks as the main build, complemented with subtle shades of block paving.
Our involvement
As the landscaping contractor for the scheme, Valley Provincial undertook all hard and soft landscaping works. This involved sympathetic value improvement to align the project with target budgets whilst retaining the original design intent. Our consultative approach ensured no detail was overlooked and provided clarity, cost certainty and confidence for all stakeholders.
Valley Provincial completed the project to an exceptionally high standard, overcoming access challenges to complete the scheme on schedule. This involved close liaison with the project team and other trades, meticulous scheduling of material deliveries and project management to achieve key dates. Overall, the scheme involved the installation of 2,000m2 of paving and 500m3 of aggregate. Soft landscaping works involved 1,800m3 of soils, 69 trees, 4700 plants. The overall project was completed over a 50-week period.
