Our Story | Commercial Landscaping For Over 50 years | Valley Provincial

It all started in…

1976

Over five decades, Valley Provincial has grown from modest beginnings into one of the UK’s leading commercial landscaping businesses. Below, we’ve highlighted some of the milestones of our journey.

1976

  • Company was founded

The business was established as Provincial Planters in November 1976 by our founder Norman Lyon. Operating quite literally from a garden shed, the company provided interior planting services to offices and corporate environments, primarily across central London.

  • 1984

    First dedicated premises

As the business grew, the company relocated to its first premises at Riverside Industrial Estate. This move marked a significant step forward, providing improved facilities and operational capacity to support an expanding client base and a growing range of services.

  • 1986

    Fire at Riverside premises

In 1984, a major fire resulted in the loss of the Riverside premises. This was a very challenging period for the business which, despite the disruption, continued to operate.

  • A new home at Chalcraft Nurseries

Later that year, the business relocated to Chalcraft Nurseries. Chalcraft Nurseries has been our home ever since, providing exceptional nursery-based storage facilities and excellent access to London.

  • 1993

    Strategic acquisition and service expansion

In 1993, the company acquired an established landscaping contractor called Valley Landscape Management, a move that significantly strengthened its external landscaping and grounds maintenance capabilities. This acquisition enabled the business to broaden its service offering and take on more complex, larger-scale projects.

  • 1999

    Virgin Atlantic partnership

In the mid-1990s, Valley Provincial were contracted to provide interior and exterior planting services for Virgin Atlantic, one of the world’s most recognised airline brands. This marked the beginning of a strong partnership which continues to this day.

  • 2001

    25 years of trading

In 2001, Valley Provincial celebrated its 25th anniversary, marking a quarter century of continuous trading.

  • 2002

    Our partnership with SEGRO begins

In the early 2000’s we secured our first grounds maintenance contract with SEGRO, one of UK’s largest commercial land owners. After a strong working partnership over 20 years, an executive decision to change their landscaping service provider was reversed just 2 years later. Our partnership still continues to grow to this day.

  • 2012

    Business alignment and restructure

Multiple trading entities were brought together into a more unified business structure called Valley Provincial Group LLP, better positioning the company for the next 10 years of strategic growth.

  • 2019

    Brand refresh and market repositioning

A full brand refresh was undertaken in 2019 to reflect the company’s evolving market position. The updated identity aligned Valley Provincial with the expectations of major commercial clients, developers and managing agents.
